DON'T LET YOUR BACK STOP YOU!

If you develop spinal pain and are involved in sport you may need specialist advice to return you to your activities. At SPINEWORKS we can offer specialist appointments to diagnose and treat spinal conditions.

SpineWorks is a new and innovative organization that aims to provide a multi disciplinary approach to patients suffering from spinal disorders. Our vision is to offer patients a unified service for assessment, appropriate investigation, advice and treatment.

Most conditions are likely to settle with appropriate physical therapy. We are happy to liase with your own practitioner and help with accurate diagnosis and pain control. If you have no physical therapist we are happy to suggest one in your area.

Some problems may need more specialist investigations and we can arrange the appropriate x-rays, scans and tests to assist the understanding of your condition.

If physical therapy, including core stability, has not achieved control of your symptoms then injections may be required to reduce pain and inflammation. This is in order to return you to physical therapy again. It is known that most spinal conditions will improve and therefore provided the diagnosis is known and the pain is improved it is appropriate to return to physical rehabilitation.

Very occasionally the above methods of treatment fail or there is a major problem diagnosed. These may constitute a reason for considering surgery. This comprises two main types. Surgery for nerve pain in either the arms or legs, or surgery for mechanical failure in the neck or back. Clearly a combination may be required. If surgery is recommended don't panic! There are number of international sportsmen who have continued playing after operations.

SPINEWORKS can also arrange more formal rehabilitation via BACK2REALITY. Here you can be offered a full assessment on your back, working with a team of surgeons, pain specialists, psychologists and rehabilitation experts with the aim of returning you to work and sport. These courses can range from one day to three days initially and then re-assessment can be provided. We are also happy to liase with your occupational health team at your place of work or club.
